Highlights of the TriBeCa Route
What makes TriBeCa so distinctive are its cobblestone streets and large brick warehouses. Together, they give the neighbourhood an atmosphere that is both stately and rugged.
Those warehouses are the story of TriBeCa. Where there used to be factories and storage warehouses, you’ll now find luxury homes, hotels and restaurants. The buildings have remained, but what’s inside has changed completely, and that’s precisely what makes a stroll here so enjoyable.

From various points along the TriBeCa walking route, you’ll also have a lovely view of two striking buildings: the One World Trade Center, the city’s tallest skyscraper, and the Jenga Building, which owes its nickname to its staggered shape, reminiscent of the well-known tower of blocks.
At each stop along the way, I will tell you what you can see and what lies behind the façades. By the end of this walk, you’ll see TriBeCa’s chic exterior in a completely different light.
The History of TriBeCa
TriBeCa takes its name from its location: it stands for ‘Triangle Below Canal Street’, referring to the triangular area south of Canal Street. For a long time, this was a truly industrial neighbourhood, full of factories, warehouses and bustling activity. Much of that era can still be seen today in the buildings and the wide, cobbled streets.
TriBeCa has since become one of New York’s most sought-after neighbourhoods. The old factories have been converted into spacious lofts, and the area is now home to artists and celebrities. Yet the neighbourhood has never quite lost its raw edge, and it is precisely this combination of luxury and industrial heritage that gives TriBeCa its character.
