Manhattan to Newark Airport transfer

Manhattan to Newark Airport transfer

Manhattan to Newark Airport Transfer

A Manhattan to Newark Airport transfer by taxi can cost up to $100. I therefore advise you not to take a taxi to Newark Airport (EWR), instead go by shuttle bus or private car. When you book your airport transfer beforehand, you can enjoy your last day in New York stress-free.

Shared Small Shuttle Buses

The shared small shuttle buses will pick you up from your hotel or apartment and bring you to Newark Airport. Please note that most buses only pick up customers up to 125th Street. It will only cost $20 per person. It’ll take you at least 1.5 hours to travel to Newark Airport. The shuttle buses take longer than a taxi, as they need to pick up more people. After booking, read your voucher carefully for instructions on how to be picked up at the location and time of your choice.

Private Car or Limousine

In addition to the small shuttle buses, you can also be picked up by a town car or limousine. A town car is a small limousine for one to four people. If you’re travelling with a group of people to Newark Airport, this is a great alternative to a taxi or shuttle bus and most of the time cheaper too. Prices start at $22 per person to Newark Airport.

There is a train that connects Penn Station in Manhattan to Newark Airport. To get to your terminal you will need to transfer on to the AirTrain. Together the train journey to Newark and the AirTrain costs $13. Tickets just for the AirTrain costs $5.50. This is my least favourite way of travelling from Manhattan to Newark Airport because you have to transfer from one train to another, which is not great if you have a lot of baggage with you.

When should I leave for Newark Airport?

It’s always smart to plan enough time to get to Newark Airport, especially during rush hours. You can expect these travel times from Manhattan:

  • Taxi to Newark Airport: 1 to 1.5 hours
  • Shared Shuttle bus Newark Airport: 1.5 hours
  • Train Newark Airport: 1 hour (from the moment that you catch the train)
  • Limousine/car Newark Airport: 45 minutes to 1.5 hours
Eric’s Tip: I used to take a taxi and every time I arrived at Newark Airport I thought “Why did I pay this much again?!” I never take a taxi anymore but book a shuttle bus or town car in advance. Shuttle buses cost $20 and pick you up at your hotel or apartment. The subway, train and AirTrain, all together, will cost you $15.75. You do need to pre-book your shuttle bus or limousine and can do so here.
