Highlights of the Governors Island Route
Governors Island is a lovely place to spend the day. As soon as you step off the ferry, you’ll find yourself in a green oasis with plenty of space all around you.
Along the way, I’ll tell you about the history of the island, as it’s surprisingly rich. The old forts and buildings date back to the time when Governors Island was a military post, and there’s plenty to say about that.

What’s more, you’ll be treated to stunning views throughout the walk. As the island sits right in the middle of the harbour, you’ll have views of the Manhattan skyline and the Statue of Liberty from various angles.
And then there’s the peace and greenery. Wide footpaths, grassy fields and trees make the island a great place to really unwind. There’s plenty to do, especially between May and September, as events are held regularly during this period.
During the tour, I’ll tell you what there is to see and learn at each stop. This way, you’ll get the most out of your visit to this special island, a surprising spot just outside the city.
