Landing at Stewart Airport

Stewart International Airport only handles flights from North America, including Orlando, and Iceland. PLAY Airlines is the only airline that flies to this airport from Europe. This means the airport is very small, which has some advantages.

When you arrive, you will need to go through customs. As there are only a few flights arriving each day, the waiting time is generally short. Once you have cleared customs, you can collect your luggage.

Eric’s Tip: “Although flying to Stewart Airport is often cheaper than JFK Airport or Newark Airport, I do not recommend it. Travelling from Stewart Airport to New York City and vice versa can be quite complicated, which may not be the best start to your trip to New York. Landing at one of the other two airports gives you many more options and is less of a hassle.”

Transfer from Stewart Airport to Manhattan

There are several options for travelling from Stewart Airport to Manhattan. For example, you can take public transport. First, you need to take the bus, which costs just $1 per person, to the local train station and then take the train to New York City. However, this is a long journey and it took me about two and a half hours.

Another option is to take a taxi or a Lyft, but due to the distance, this is an expensive option. Expect to pay at least $250. That’s why it’s more convenient to book a transfer in advance so you have peace of mind and know how much it will cost.

Stewart Airport Express

The cheapest option from Stewart Airport to Manhattan is the Stewart Airport Express. This is a Coach USA bus, and the journey takes about an hour and a half. However, this bus only runs once a day. If you miss it, you will have to choose one of the other options.

Eric’s Tip: “The airport bus is a good option for travelling to New York City from Stewart Airport. But I recommend heading to the bus as soon as you land. Although the bus departure time is indicated, it can sometimes vary.”

Departures from Stewart Airport

When departing from Stewart Airport, I recommend leaving for the airport in time. The airport itself is small and does not have many facilities. You can buy something to eat in New York or from the airport shop.
