You can also get married in the Office of the City Clerk.

If you get married in New York, you will receive your Marriage Certificate. Overseas marriages cannot be registered in Australia. However, the marriage will usually be legally recognised in Australia, if you followed the correct US legal process and your marriage would also be allowed under Australian law.

You must have registered your marriage in the country where it took place. Also, keep proof of the marriage on hand, such as a marriage certificate and any other supporting documents.
